DESCRIPTION
Accessibility is an online professional development course designed to help instructors learn about accessibility laws, how to create accessible content, how accessible content helps the majority of students, and what kind of tools and resources are available to instructors to aid in creating an accessible course site.
Participants in this course will watch videos, use Canvas documentation, complete activities, and participate in discussions.
Target Audience: This course is intended for teachers in a K-20+ environment. The techniques and tools in Accessibility are used from kindergarten through medical school and everywhere in between. The course will also be beneficial for anyone who will be creating a course, for example, school and district administrators as well as university instructional designers.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Define Accessibility
- Implement a course design strategy that is navigable and accessible for all learners
- Demonstrate the use of multiple forms of media to facilitate readability and minimize distractions
- Identify and Create accessible auditory and visual content that optimizes the use of assistive tools and technologies
- Prepare accessible assessments via Mastery Paths and Student Choice
- Select the appropriate tools and resources to optimize student learning
